We thank you for your patience and anticipation for a new semester of Sharing Languages, and we hope you and your families are safe during these difficult times. As promised, here are the full details of how we will be running our program (virtually) this fall.
1. In light of recent events and to maintain the safety of our students and teachers, all classes will be held VIRTUALLY. There will be no in-person activities. Instead, we will be providing a combination of at-home content and live Zoom sessions. Every week, our teachers will send out a video and lesson worksheet for students to do at home. Then, short Zoom sessions (~15-30min) will be scheduled later in the week for students to play games and activities with the content that they have learned.
2. We are teaching 3 classes this semester: Spanish Beginner, Spanish Intermediate, French Beginner
Spanish Beginner -- Monday 4:30-5:00pm | Tuesday 5:00-5:30pm
Spanish Intermediate -- Tuesday 5:00-5:30pm
French Beginner -- Thursday 4:30-5:00pm
Due to the high volume of signups for Spanish Beginner, we are offering the live class twice a week. Both Monday & Tuesday classes, however, are exactly the same. Please refer to the attached schedules (see down below!) we have created for a complete list of class dates.
3. Classes begin next week: October 12 (please look out for another email with the class Zoom links!)
*No worksheet/video for the first week of classes, just come prepared and ready to learn!
4. How do I sign-up?
It's easy!! As some parents may already know, we've created this form to add parents to our email list: https://tinyurl.com/y2v6dmvv
If you have already signed up using this form, please DO NOT fill it out again. If, for some reason, you have already filled out this form but would like to be taken off the email list, please let us know. If you want to switch to a different language class or add a new language, please let us know as well. Even if you have been with us in previous years, you must STILL fill out this form! Email will be the main form of contact with our parents and it is where we will be sending out weekly worksheets (so please monitor your emails every week!)
5. Which classes are students allowed to take?
As many as they want! If your student wishes to try both Spanish and French, they may do so. To participate in Spanish Intermediate, however, students must have taken Spanish Beginner with us in the past or have prior knowledge of Spanish with them. No experience is required for any of our beginner classes.
6. What grade levels are these classes for?
Our content and activities are generally geared towards grades 3-6, mostly because our lessons will involve some level of reading and writing. However, our classes are meant to be open to everyone and we welcome students of all ages to come learn with us!
As full-time students ourselves, we understand the difficulties the pandemic has brought upon students access to education and their learning experience in the classroom. That being said, we hope Sharing Languages can continue to be a source of free, accessible educational resources to our wonderful students in the Baltimore community. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns and we look forward to "seeing" you in class!
